Was the 2024 Lok Sabha election — and the assembly elections that followed — truly free and fair?
Rahul Gandhi has alleged large-scale voter-list manipulation and “vote chori,” claiming the Election Commission’s own data shows duplicate voters, fake addresses, bulk registrations at single houses, invalid photos, and misuse of Form 6. He has pointed to examples such as Mahadevapura in Karnataka and later raised similar questions on Haryana and Maharashtra. The Election Commission has called these charges baseless and asked for sworn evidence.
Odisha supplies a concrete local test of those claims. Simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly polls were held in 2024. BJD later wrote to the ECI citing mismatches between votes recorded in Form 17C (polled) and Form 20 (counted) at multiple booths, differences between parliamentary and assembly vote totals in the same constituencies, and sharp jumps in turnout figures after 5 pm and even after 11:45 pm on polling day. In Keonjhar — the seat of the present Chief Minister — the party flagged one of the largest such gaps. Congress in Odisha has also spoken of unusually high evening voting. These are public, documented questions. They have not been fully answered in the open.
