Smt. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on 2014 Election Results
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi said: "I would like to start by congratulating the new government. They have been given a mandate by the people of our country. So I wish the new government all the best. From my part, the Congress party has done pretty badly. There is a lot for us to think about and as Vice President of the party I hold myself responsible for what has happened. Thank you."
This was followed by a statement by Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi. She said, "Lok Sabha results are before us. The Congress party fought this election on the strength of its achievements, its policies and its principles. But still we didn't get the mandate we had hoped we would get. We believe, winning and losing is part of democracy. This mandate is clearly against us and against our party. We accept this decision of India's voters with utmost humility. But we also hope that the new government will not compromise with India's unity and the interest of the Indian people." Watch the video for the complete statement.
