India to Summon Meta over Zuckerberg's 'Lost Election' Remarks | Vantage with Palki Sharma
A parliamentary panel in India is set to summon Meta over its CEO Mark Zuckerberg's remarks on the 2024 general elections in India. Zuckerberg had falsely claimed that the incumbent Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had lost the 2024 election due to handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the Modi government had won a third consecutive term, last year.
MP Nishikant Dubey, who chairs the Indian parliamentary committee on communications and information technology, wrote on X: “My committee will summon Meta over the false information. Misinformation about any democratic country tarnishes the image of the country. That organisation will have to apologise to the Indian Parliament and the people for this mistake.”
