#RanilOnFirstpost: In an exclusive interview to Firstpost Managing Editor Palki Sharma, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe talked about his impression of his rival Anura Kumara Dissanayake, leader of opposition political party National People's Power. "Mr Dissanayake has been in the Opposition. He has become a threat to Mr Sajith Premadasa, he is not a threat to me."
Sri Lanka is preparing for its first presidential election since the economic meltdown, with 39 candidates set to compete on 21 September. Among the key contenders is incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, running as an independent candidate, alongside other notable names such as Sajith Premadasa and Namal Rajapaksa. India is closely monitoring the situation, as the outcome could influence regional stability and India's strategic interests, particularly concerning China's growing influence.
