The widely-anticipated dates for byelections to the Wayanad, the Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala that has fallen vacant after the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as an MP, were not announced by the Election Commission on Wednesday. The poll body in a press conference announced the schedule for Karnataka Assembly elections and by-polls for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat. Karnataka will go to polls on May 10 and the results will be announced three days later, on May 13, Chief Elections Commissioner Rajiv Kumar announced in the press briefing. However, he did not announce the dates for Wayanad by-polls.

“We have cleared vacancies till February. This vacancy was notified in March. A 30-day period has been given for appeal. We are not in a hurry,” the Chief Election Commissioner told reporters on Wayanad bypoll.
