In it, Mr Biden declares it's his job to defend American democracy, saying now is not a time to be complacent the announcement comes on the four-year anniversary of Mr Biden declaring for the White House in 2019.

It's likely to be a smooth path to winning the Democratic Party nomination, but he will face a divided nation in 2024, with former President Trump hoping to emerge as the candidate from a field of Republican hopefuls.

Mr Biden would be 82 at the time of his inauguration, should he win next year's vote.
