India: Voting for Phase 1 of General Election Begins in the World’s Largest Democracy

India kicks off its general election as millions vote for the country's next prime minister and parliament. The first of the seven-phase general election begins today with votes being cast in 102 of 543 constituencies. The election for all 543 seats of the Indian parliament is being conducted in seven phases, ending on June 1. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
