Bangladesh News | Bangladesh Election 2024 | Voting Ends In Bangladesh Elections | Sheikh Hasina

Bangladeshis on Sunday turned up in low numbers to cast their votes for the general elections, anticipated to result in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina securing a fourth consecutive term with her Awami League-led alliance. The electoral process was marred by pre-poll violence and a boycott by the main opposition party, BNP, and its allies.

Voting began at 8 am and is scheduled to end at 4 pm. The election commission reported a turnout of 27.15% at 3 pm, just an hour prior to the closure of polls. This stands in contrast to the overall turnout of over 80% recorded in the previous election held in 2018.

Meanwhile, voting has been cancelled at three centres — one in Narsingdi and two in Narayanganj. As per reports, the Election Commission has ordered the arrest of Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun’s son on charges of electoral fraud in Narsingdi.
