The year 2024 has been a defining one for Rwanda. It marked major genocide commemorations and general elections that secured Paul Kagame another five years in office, after his already 24-year-long presidency. Rwanda is often celebrated for its economic success, but this year also brought renewed scrutiny over its human rights record, lack of personal freedoms, and inequalities.
