2024 elections | Independent candidates upbeat ahead of the general elections
South Africa is entering a new era in the country's democratic dispensation, when for the first time, independent candidates will contest National and Provincial elections. Some independent candidates believe they have what it takes to represent their communities in the National Assembly and provincial legislatures.

In 2020, the Constitutional Court declared the Electoral Act unconstitutional, insofar as it limits the rights of independent candidates to contest general elections.
